The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, has sent an initiative to the Mexican Senate to strengthen national sovereignty, rejecting any foreign interference. In her daily press conference, she announced reforms to the Constitution aimed at protecting the integrity, independence, and sovereignty of the nation.
In the message, Sheinbaum emphasized the importance of Mexico not accepting external interventions that could harm its sovereignty, including coups, interference in elections, or violations of national territory. It was stressed that any illegal activity carried out by foreigners related to such interference will be punished with the severest penalty and preventive imprisonment.
The Mexican leader made it clear that she will not tolerate violations of national sovereignty, despite the statement from the U.S. Department of State, which considers six drug cartels as terrorist organizations. Sheinbaum maintained that cooperation between countries to combat organized crime must respect Mexico's sovereignty.
In the initiative sent to the Senate, it is proposed to modify Articles 19 and 40 of the Constitution to strengthen protection against foreign interference. Sheinbaum highlighted the importance of cooperation and coordination between countries, without subordination, to ensure the security and sovereignty of Mexico.
